CAPE TOWN – Executives at the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) say they live in fear of speaking out about shenanigans at the state entity.
On Wednesday, SITA executives briefed the portfolio committee of communications and digital technologies during an oversight visit to the troubled entity.
The committee also discussed a whistleblower report in which allegations are made about the unlawful appointment of the general manager, which is also before the Public Protector.
The committee’s oversight visit became tense, with the SITA board coming under fire from MPs for interference in procurement and for leadership instability.
Company officials also had the opportunity to express their concerns about their working conditions and management.
One of the executives, Gopal Reddy, said they were largely sidelined and the supply chain was virtually dead.
“People are being moved within the organization. Exco is not taken into confidence. Exco members who are here are afraid to stand up and talk. I do it on their behalf because I know what it takes.”
Another director, Cyril Baloyi, warned against officials who publicly fought and openly disagreed.
“It’s scary and we’re on a public platform. Even if we don’t agree on something, we have to sit down and talk.”
The board said it supports a formal investigation into all allegations of procurement irregularities and infighting.
